Installing electric solar panels on your home can be a great improvement project and can also raise the value of your home. Solar power technology have advanced over the years and they now are a economical and practical way of generating up to all of a home's power requirements.

Installing electric solar panels on your home takes a little planning. The first step you need to take is to find your previous electrical usage. If you do this you will get a good idea of your future consumption and you can size your system based on this information.

Once you know how large your system needs to be you have to decide what type of electric solar panels you want to install. In the field of solar panels, they are all called Photo Voltaic (PV) even though there are basically three different types of electric solar panels available.

The first kind of electrical solar panel is know as Monocrystalline, because the panel is made from one big crystal. Because this type of panel still produces power in lower light situations and it will generate more energy than other panels it is the best choice. The only problem is that because it is made from one costly crystal it is more expensive than other panels.

Another type of solar panel is called Polycrystalline, and although it is much the same as the first type of panel, these panels are made of a number of smaller crystals. Even though it doesn't generate electricity as efficiently as the first style of panel is will still do the job. This style of panel is the most commonly used.

The third style of electric solar panel is called Amorphous and it is built by applying silicon directly onto stainless steel plates. It is less efficient than the other choices and will require more of these type of electric solar panels to generate the same amount of power you would get from a few of the other two types.

After deciding on which type of solar electric panel to use, you will have to mount the panels on your home's roof. You have a number of different methods of doing this, and a rail system is the most secure of them. The rails are attached to your roof and are the base for the solar panels. The rails are connected through the roof and into its beams.

Once these are mounted and weatherproofed you can install your solar electric panels on top of them. The entire rail assembly will be mounted with an inch or two of clearance between the panels and the roof to provide for clear access for rain and debris to run under the solar electric panels, and for proper ventilation.

If your home does not have perfect exposure to catch the suns rays for your solar electric panels, you may have to use a more sophisticated mounting. You can buy a mounting rail system that will adjust the angle of panels as the sun moves across the sky to make sure that the panel has maximum exposure. They can be more costly, but the panels will generate much more energy.

For more information on installing electric solar panels please visit: http://www.residentialrenewableenergy.com/electric-solar-panels.php

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Lee_Maynard

Residential Solar Panels - Use the Sun to Power Your Home

Going green is the buzzword in the news and political discussions. Our economy is being changed to accommodate more green technology that will help cut down on harmful gases and stimulate spending.

You can install residential solar panels to use the sun's power to create electricity in your home. Rooftop installations are probably the most common use of panels for energy generation.

Many people may be apprehensive about installing power equipment themselves as they may be worried about installation costs or quality of work. The good news is that many vendors are gearing up for the new green push in the economy and are familiar with all of the new technologies. Do it yourself kits are also very popular. If you have a minimal amount of familiarity with electric systems and roofing, you can buy and install your own kits.

Residential solar panels don't need to be large boxes on your roof. New technology has allowed new cells that are built right into the rooftop tiles themselves. In addition, they can be incorporated into sheds, windows, and other inconspicuous areas. The beauty of your home will be maintained.

Solar electricity can be produced from any area or region that has a reasonable amount of sunlight. Many people think that solar power can only be generated from warm sunny areas such as Houston or San Antonio. Systems are becoming so efficient that even areas such as Chicago are pushing for solar initiatives. You should check with your local government to see what type of grants or rebates are offered as new bills are being passed daily to aid homeowners. The economics and payback time may surprise you. It may get you your money back in a matter of months.

Investigate residential solar panels today!

For more information on the advantages of solar energy in the home see our website Residential Solar Panels.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=David_Cason

Is it Cost Effective to Build Your Own Solar Panels?

One of the biggest issues facing homeowners wishing to have solar panels installed is the cost.

A February 2009 study by the Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory of over 37,000 installs showed that although the costs have decreased dramatically over the past 10 years, the average cost works out to between $8 and $10 a watt installed. This means that a 3kw system for an average home will still cost you around $25,000. Granted the new solar tax credits and state incentives will take a good bite out of that but I am still at a loss as to why these systems are so expensive to begin with which puts them out of reach for a large part of the general public.

I decided to try and break down the costs involved from pricing I found easily online

Materials:

3kw worth of new untabbed solar cells at $1 per watt - $3000

3000 watt inverter - $1500

Materials to build 15 200 watt panel enclosures ( estimate) - $750

Miscellaneous tabbing wire, bus wire, flux etc - $100

Miscellaneous electrical components( disconnects, wiring - $500

Batteries for back up power - $100

Total - $5950

I may have a few numbers wrong here and there but it looks to me like you could theoretically build your own solar panel system for about 25% of the cost so yes it would almost certainly be cost effective to build your own.
Basically a solar panel is a series of solar cells joined together with wire conductors, attached to a backboard and installed in a weatherproof enclosure.

These can be wired together and stored as DC power in batteries or run through an inverter to produce AC power which can be used directly in the home.

Obviously if you build your own solar panel it may not be as pretty as the store bought units but that is just aesthetics. You can go online and buy the same solar cells as the manufacturers use. That is where all the technology is. The rest of it is just wiring and controls. The electrical work to be done is nothing too far outside the range of most do it yourselfers but this portion of the work could be subcontracted.

We have been conditioned into believing that solar technology is so complex and difficult to understand that we have left it to the experts and either paid their high prices or been unable to afford it . Do a little research and you will see that it is a very straightforward process. It has been said many time that if you can assemble an IKEA book case then you can build your own solar panel!

If you are thinking about building your own solar panels this website will walk you through it with baby steps.

For other ways to save energy costs please visit http://www.cutratepower.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jon_Whitehead

DIY Homemade Solar Panels - Do They Really Work?

A lot of you reading this will be interested in building your own homemade solar panels. You will have read lot of information on them, but I am sure there is one question you would like answered above all, how effective are they or do they really work?

I first put together my first homemade solar panels quite some time ago now and I have had a good result so far. Whilst many claim you can get energy savings of up to 80% off your usual power bill most of you will find that you don't reap this much initially, especially with your first homemade solar panels. The best way to start down the road of energy self sufficiency is to start small, aim to power a few devices at first, you will still be slashing cash off your monthly bill and possibly selling excess energy back to the grid.

Once you have made your first one, it is simply a matter of rinse and repeat, so you can become more and more dependent on solar energy. Perhaps initially look at running a few appliances such as your laptop, radio, television or even lighting, in time you will be able to add more and more as you build up your familiarity and expertise with the process.

You will still need to run some appliances, such as mains run ovens and air-conditioning using the power grid, as they draw massive amounts of energy, much more than even conventional solar power systems can provide (although there are some products like cookers that are now being produced that are designed to run on solar energy). As you increase the number of your homemade solar panels you will find you can get close to the 80% figure many enthusiasts have obtained.

So the short answer is yes! Homemade solar panels really do work!

You can read more about them and how to go about assembling your own at the following link - Homemade Solar Panels

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jospeh_Stark

DIY Solar Power For Home Owners - Homemade Solar Panels Can Save You a Lot of Money

We are all feeling the pinch of the current economic mess we find ourselves in the middle of, with the need to tighten our purse strings people are looking for ways to cut cost from all aspects of their lives. Energy is no exception and the desire to cut energy costs, to ease the financial burden on many households is the reason why many homeowners are looking to make homemade solar panels as part of a DIY solar power system that will save them a lot of money.

The main reason having your own DIY solar power will save you money is that once you have your system up and running, harvesting the energy, refining it, storing it and consuming it is free. Solar energy is energy harvested by collecting the sun's rays. As well as being free to use, it is a renewable and sustainable form of energy.

Depending on how much of your power needs are changed over to solar, just imagine how good it feels to get power bills that are under $20 bucks or even less. I'm sure many of you normally have bills that run into the hundreds, even thousands of dollars.

Another way DIY solar power can ease your financial burden is you can actually sell the excess power you are no longer using back to the power grid!

In our household implementing our own homemade solar panels has seen a decrease in our energy bill of around 60%, as we look to undertake another homemade solar power project and produce another set of panels we estimate it will be pushing more like 80%, in money terms we are looking at saving thousands of dollars a year for what was an initial outlay of around $200, I am sure you will all agree this is a great return on our investment.

So if your scratching for a dollar or looking for ways to save more money check out the following link for more information on homemade solar panels.

If you're interested in building your own panels, it's well worth getting an instruction guide to walk you through the process, I highly recommend you check out the following review of the leading guides available DIY Solar Power guides reviewed.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jon_Osbourne

DIY Solar Power - How to Build Homemade Solar Panels

Solar power panels can help you save money on your electricity bill and protect the environment. The panel can capture the sunlight and convert it into heat or electricity. This way you will be able to power all the appliances of your home at almost zero cost. To put together a DIY panel you will need less than $200 and it will only take you a few hours.

Take a look at some of the advantages of DIY solar panels:

You can save more than 80% off your utility bill or even completely eliminate it.

You can receive tax credits for using green energy.

You can sell the extra energy you produce to your utility company and make money.

You will reduce your carbon footprint and help the environment.

You will stop caring about power outages, because you'll increase your efficiency.

You will reduce your dependability on exhaustible resources.

You can increase the value of your house.

Everyday the sun provides us with free energy. The only thing we have to do is to collect it and turn it into a usable form. Some of the materials you are going to need in order to build this system are: copper wires, a micro-meter, an electric stove, sandpaper, two alligator clip heads, table salt and tap water. It's very important to pick the correct location to place the cells, so as to absorb the maximum amount of sunlight. You can choose the roof, the garden or the backyard. Although a panel generates more power in sunny days, it can operate in cloudy days as well.

In order to be able to generate your own electricity, it's very important to seek out a quality manual that will guide you through the building process. There are some manuals online, which can provide you with:
- Very easy to follow instructions.
- Many diagrams and even videos.
- Information about how to find cheap materials.
- Details on where to get all the necessary parts.

Click Here to find out how to build your own HOMEMADE SOLAR PANELS!

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=J._M._Jones

DIY Solar Power - The Advantages of Building Your Own Homemade Solar Panels

With more and more people taking up DIY solar power projects these days, I thought it would be a good idea to look at the advantages that result from building your own homemade solar panels.

Advantages of building your own homemade solar panels

1. With the cost of utilities going up steadily and all the hype about saving our environment, more and more individuals are turning towards solar energy and solar panels. Training is available for almost every aspect regarding the use of solar energy. Solar panel training is available so interested individuals can learn how the panels are made, how they work as well as how to install and maintain them.

Solar energy has become a great alternative power source. Because of the large demand for solar panels, manufacturers are making complete solar panel systems for both home and commercial use. Solar panel training is important if you have intentions of doing the installation yourself. Even if you have them professionally installed, a beginner solar panel training course is recommended so you're knowledgeable in maintaining them and spotting potential problems. Here are a few tips about solar panels just to get you started and to give you a general idea of what they entail.

How Solar Panels Work

Although the whole process of solar energy sounds complicated, the bottom line is: Energy is absorbed into the panels from the rays of the sun. The brighter the sun, the more energy the panels will absorb. Silicon chambers with built in electrons will store the energy and convert it into electricity for your home or business. There are different types of solar panels, which you'll learn more about if you enroll into solar panel training. The photovoltaic solar panels are made in varieties of types and styles based on efficiency level, price structure, and different types of mounts. The type of panels that you'll ultimately want to buy for your home will depend on the needs of your home and family.

Portable Solar Panels

Potable solar panels are used quite frequently by individuals that are away from home but need power such as hikers or campers. Portable panels can be used for more than just providing heat and electricity in the campers. They can also be used to power up laptops, cell phones and other such tools. They provide an excellent source of electricity for campers, storing it up during the day so the occupants have an ample supply at night. Solar panel training will also give you information on how to get the most use out of portable panels when away from home.

Cost Factor

As with everything in this world, cost is a factor with these panels and solar energy in general. Installation of the panels is quite a large up-front investment. For instance, have enough rough panels to provide electricity for an entire home can cost thousands of dollars, up to $100, 000 on a large home. The investment is a lifetime investment, however. The cost is the main reason why homeowners start with just a few solar panels at a time and enroll in solar panel training so they can do the installation and save money.

James Copper is a writer for http://www.plumbing-course.co.uk where you can find information on how to become a plumber

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=James_Copper

DIY Solar Power - Can You Really Build Your Own Solar Panels?

DIY Solar Power has now become a reality, all across the internet guides are springing up promoting DIY solar power solutions and the benefits you can reap from making your own solar panels, but the question needs to be raised, can you really build your own solar panels?

To answer this question I thought it would be a good idea to share my own personal experiences in building my own DIY solar power system.

I first got interested in solar as an alternative energy form when I started to look closer at not only the cost of my households energy consumption but also the impact traditional energy sources are having on the environment.

Being a cleaner, renewable and free form of energy I settled on solar as my alternative energy. I did a search on the internet found a local installer and gave their phone number a call, what happened next shocked me, the cost of having a system installed was just under $9,000! this just wasn't an option, it would take years to recoup the cost of installation with the savings made from using solar. I decided to dig a little deeper and being a handyman type of guy started looking for a do it yourself (DIY) solution.

I ended up purchasing a how to build solar panels guide for just under $50 and set about following the instructions laid out within. The sun is an incredible energy source that can provide us with enough power to sustain ourselves, but we aren't taking advantage of it due to technological limitations. By building your own solar panels, you will be able to collect this energy and turn it into electricity.

Here are just a few benefits of using the power of the sun:

You can reduce or completely eliminate your electricity bill.

You can even get paid by your utility company, by selling them the extra energy you produce.

You can get tax deductions, because you will be using resources that are friendly to the environment.

You will be completely efficient and won't have to worry about power outages.

You can stop producing greenhouse gases and protect the environment.

You will need some materials that are easily available and very affordable, like: copper wire, glass, a charge controller, a deep cycle battery, strong plywood, silicone and UV Protector. Keep in mind that if you want to produce a neat 100 watts of power, you need to use at least 80 solar cells. You must join the cells together in series to form the panel. Each cell consists of semi-conductors such as silicon.

When the rays of the sun hit the surface of the semi-conductor, they cause electrons to break free of their atoms and produce electricity as a result.

The cost of a self assembled solar panel is less than $200 and will pay for itself in a few weeks.

You should install the system where it can capture the maximum amount of sunlight. A good location would be the roof, but you can also use your garden or you backyard. Diy solar panels are very easy to build, especially if you follow the step-by-step instructions of a reliable manual. It will take you just a few hours to complete this project and after that you will be able to power all your home appliances (fridge, stove, dishwasher, laundry room facilities and more).

Thousands of people all over the world are now taking advantage of the sun's energy and save thousands of dollars every year on their electricity bill.

Do you want to join them?

To build your own DIY SOLAR PANELS, Just Click Here!

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Brian_A._Russell

Learn How to Make Solar Panels and Reduce Your Electric Bills

Solar energy is one the most popular renewable energy sources these days. Solar panel systems don't even require much maintenance and still cut on electric bills month after month. A lot of people choose to make their own solar panels and others are buying ready-made ones that are quite costly. A single solar panel may cost as much as a few thousand dollars. (not to mention the installation cost) But there are a few methods to make solar panels on your own but not without following a tested and proven DIY guide.

Anyone can make solar panels all you need is a step-by-step set of instructions. Below is an overview of the things you need for making a fully functional solar power system at home.

DIY guide for making solar panels

Sheets of plywood

Solar cells

Glass panes

Roll of copper wire

A lot of DIY guides are available online for as low as $40, you just need to get one that has a great tech support and positive customer feedback. The DIY guide should not only contain basic information on how to build solar panels but detailed illustrated diagrams and videos to accompany you throughput your project. We've followed Earth4Energy which is in fact the most popular guide available at the moment, you even get information on how to get all the parts at the lowest cost or even get them for free.

For example a 400 watt solar panel can be built in two days for under $200 that means you'll be saving thousands of dollars by building your own solar power system. A commercial 400 watt solar panel has quite a high price tag of around $2000 or even more depending on its manufacturer. Imagine how much money you could save yearly by making your own green energy source, start living off grid and protect the environment for generations to come.

If you're tired of high electricity bills discover how thousands of families worldwide benefit from homemade solar panels to power their homes.

For more information on how to build homemade solar panels read our Earth4Energy review.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Alexandru_Matei

Build Solar Panels at Home

How would you like to reduce your electric bill? How would you like to have no electric bill at all? Then let me introduce you to renewable energy. One of the most reliable sources of renewable energy is solar power. Unfortunately, to have a solar power system installed professionally is way too expensive for most people, even those who are truly environmentally conscious. In addition, it could take a decade or more before your energy savings match your initial investment. There is, however, an alternative. Say goodbye to professionally installed solar power and say hello to homemade solar panels. The most cost-effective way to take advantage of the power of the sun is to build solar panels at home.

Sounds crazy? Not at all. Building your own solar panels is the most cost-effective way to harness the power of the sun. Don't be frightened by the unknown, this is not as daunting a task as you may think. Actually, with the proper instructions it is easy to do. So easy, your children can even help and you can turn it into an enjoyable family project. Also, the components aren't complicated at all.

Most of the parts you will need can be found at a hardware store. If you want everything rolled up into a nice neat package, and you have a few extra bucks, you can choose to buy a solar panel kit instead. These kits will contain everything you need to generate your own electricity from the sun. You can start off by making a few small solar panels which could power some small appliances. Or, you could go full throttle and build solar panels to supplement or even replace your home's existing power supply.

So how do you start? Well first and foremost you need to find quality detailed instructions. After that you are off to the hardware store to get your supplies. Then, when you have some free time, you start the assembly process and eventually install the system. If you build solar panels at home you will not only save money but you will also be helping the environment.

To have a solar power system professionally installed will cost many thousands of dollars which most of us simply do not have, especially now. So choose to go solar right away and learn how you can build solar panels at home. Not only will it save you money but it's also something you will be proud of.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Bob_Nesheim

Garden Solar Panels

Create Solar Panels at Home and generate Energy for Free!

Building your own Solar Power System

Can I really make electricity at home and reduce my Power Bill?

The simple answer is Yes you can! What's more, you'll be making so much Energy, the Power Company will want to buy it back from you.

Building Solar Panels at Home is Simple.
